Heaton Mersey Congregational Church

The small and well kept churchyard of Heaton Mersey Congregational Church, on the corner of Mersey Road and New Beech Road, contains a single War Grave and a couple of family memorials.



Captain Samuel WATTS.
Manchester Regimen, 2nd Bn.
Died 28 Oct 1918, age 25.
Special Memorial.
Born at Manchester. Son of Samuel and Mary I. Watts, of Victoria Park, Manchester, and Edale House, Derbyshire. Educated at Manchester Grammar School and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. Family vault on West side of front graveyard.


Private 6240 George EDGE.
Manchester Regiment, "A" Coy. 16th Bn.
Died 3 Jul 1916, age 22.
Buried La Neuville British Cemetery, Corbie, France, Section I. Row A. Grave 36.
Son of Albert and Clara Annie Edge, of Heaton Mersey, Manchester.


Private 6760 Joseph HUGHES.
Manchester Regiment, 16th Bn.
Died 1 Jul 1916.
Buried Dive Copse British Cemetery, Sailly-le-sec, France, Section II. Row C. Grave 21.
