Buxton Boer War Memorial

Buxton's Boer war memorial in located at the top of the stairs at the park entrance to the town hall.


ERECTED BY THE BUXTON URBAN DISTRICT COUN-
CIL TO COMMEMORATE THE BRAVERY OF THE
GALLANT MEN OF THE DISTRICT WHO VOLUNTEERED
FOR ACTIVE SERVICE IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN WAR
1900-2 SERGEANTS PERKINS AND BRINDLEY AND
CORPORALS CHAPPEL AND PERKINS WERE THE
FIRST VOLUNTEERS TO LEAVE THE SHORES OF ENGLAND
ON ACTIVE SERVICE: SERGEANT PERKINS WAS KILLED
IN ACTION AT RHENOSTER RIVER JUNE 7TH 1900.
