Manchester National Museum of Football

Part of the collection is a plaque commemorating all those footballers who fell during the Great war.

IN REMEMBRANCE
OF
THOSE WHO TOOK PART
IN THE NATIONAL GAME OF
ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
AND GAVE THEIR LIVES
IN THE CAUSE OF RIGHT
AND JUSTICE
IN THE GREAT WAR
1914 - 1918.

'GIVE ME LEAVE TO LIVE AND DIE
IN THIS OPINION, THAT HE IS NOT
WORTHY TO LIVE AT ALL WHO
FOR FEAR OR DANGER OF DEATH.
SHUNNETH HIS COUNTRY'S SERVICE
AND HIS OWN HONOUR'.

There is also a display on Donald Bell the only professional footballer to receive the Victoria Cross.
